Twenty acres of glorious gardens, come and enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Almost 20 sculptures scattered through the gardens which children enjoy looking for.
From the moment you enter, you are in the water garden, then you can explore at leisure, wander through the kitchen garden, admire the geodesic dome full of tender ferns as well as the sunken fern garden. There are benches everywhere so you can stop and relax. The rhododendrons are over 100 years old, as you can see by the huge trunks on some of them. The Japanese Garden may be the garden furthest North in the UK, created in response to the very high rainfall and the difficulty of draining water away due to the proximity of the railway line and road. The sunken garden in front of the house is full of changing colours through the seasons, reflecting the colours of the hills beyond. Children can also fish for frogs and newts in the ponds along the drive.
