Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes Night, is an annual commemoration observed on the 5th November. Its history goes back over 500 years to when Guy Fawkes, a member of the infamous Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords.
Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived an attempt on his life and that the plot had failed, people lit bonfires and it later became a day of thanksgiving.
Plockton bonfire night is famous for its magnificent firework display, which starts at 6 p.m. on the 4th November this year.
A huge bonfire on the island is lit and there are burgers, hot dogs and mulled wine for sale from the sailing club’s boat shed, which is adjacent to the car park.
Be sure to arrive early so that you have time to get parked and walk down to the seafront. There’s no charge for entry, just donations which go towards next year’s fireworks.
It is a great night out for all the family.
