“An Taigh Dubh” offers a truly unique opportunity to stay in a traditional west highland thatched cottage (“black house”), in the village of Plockton. Traditional in construction outside, yet so cosy inside, and well equipped with modern comforts throughout.
It’s setting is idyllic, nestling in a peaceful location at the much photographed point of Rhu in the heart of the village. It is just a short stroll from the cottage to village shops, hotels and restaurants across the little causeway that connects Rhu to Harbour Street and the loch shore is less than a minute’s walk from An Taigh Dubh in three directions!
Inside the cottage it is a quiet secluded haven from the outside world. It makes an ideal “mini-moon” location, or romantic getaway, at any time of year. It is also a well equipped and comfortable base for walking holidays or touring the wider Skye and Lochalsh Area.
Our thatched cottage, An Taigh Dubh, dates back to the 1800’s and is the last remaining thatched cottage in the village of Plockton. Indeed, the only heather thatched cottage in the area. It has recently been re-thatched and fully refurbished to offer comfortable and cosy self catering accommodation with modern facilities.
The cottage sleeps two in self contained studio style accommodation with an open plan living/dining/sleeping area. It can in addition accommodate a cot for a small child if required. The main bed is a sturdy stowaway double bed with metal action folding frame. The cottage also has a well equipped fitted galley style kitchen, a shower room and full laundry facilities.
An Taigh Dubh also benefits from on site private parking and garden areas to the front and rear, The rear garden offers storage space for canoes or bicycles and has loch views and outdoor seating, ideally placed for watching the local sailing dingy racing in the summer season.
