Station Cottage

Visit Plockton, Self Catering, Station Cottage

Station Cottage is a characterful cosy railwayman’s cottage located next to tiny Duirinish Station. The cottage is set in beautiful unspoilt National Trust land by the sea near Plockton overlooking the Isles of Skye and Raasay and the mountains of Applecross. The moorland and crystal clear sea surrounding the cottage is home to abundant wildlife.

Family-friendly and dog-friendly, the cottage has recently been redecorated in a simple, traditional style to provide comfortable self-catering accommodation for your holiday. It has a large garden and summerhouse with lovely views.

It is perfectly peaceful and secluded, yet not isolated, being connected by the railway which carries 4 trains a day from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. The ‘Kyle Line’ is famous as one of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world.

Station cottage sleeps up to 6 with 2 double bedrooms and a room with 2 bunk beds. The cottage is best suited to 2 adults and 2 children. One of the double bedrooms is downstairs.

The kitchen is well equipped with a ceramic hob, double oven, dishwasher and microwave. There is a good range of utensils, pans and crockery. There is a large fridge with a good sized freezer section.

The conservatory dining room has a dining table and chairs to seat 6. The sitting room has an open fire (coal is provided) with a TV, DVD player and DVDs, a phone for incoming calls and free unlimited broadband. There is a small utility room in the hall which has a washing machine. There is a front porch to hang and put on outdoor gear.

Beds are already made up on arrival and all bedding is provided – hollow fibre pillows and duvets and good quality plain white cotton bedlinen. The bathroom is upstairs with bath, separate shower, washbasin and toilet. There is also a downstairs toilet with wash hand basin.

The back garden has a summerhouse with heat-retaining glass and a comfy daybed, to relax with a drink in the evening and watch the sunset over Skye. It also has a table tennis table and toys to entertain kids on wet days. The garden is fenced all around, so young children and dogs are safe and are protected from the train line or wandering out into the surrounding fields.

A few minutes from woods, the beautiful rocky shoreline and the stunning hamlet of Barleyport. By train/car:

  • 3 miles (1 train stop) from picture-perfect Plockton, with good pubs, excellent restaurants, village shop and Post Office.
  • 4 miles (1 train stop) from the Kyle of Lochalsh, with a large supermarket, leisure centre, petrol station, take-aways, cafes and shops.
  • 7 miles from Eilean Donan Castle. 4 miles from the Skye Bridge. Station Cottage is an excellent place from which to explore the Isle of Skye
